By 1834, he, together with his 14-year-old son, opened his own store. This is how the House of Rimmel was founded. By the age of 24, his son, Eugene Rimmel, had become an expert in perfumery and cosmetics. After his death, the “empire” went to two heirs, who brought their father’s business to the international level through revolutionary eye cosmetics and mascara. The mascara became so popular that the word “Rimmel” still means “mascara” in several languages around the world.
